Historically, marbling was achieved by a process of floating colours on either plain water or a viscous solution know as as size. The unique pattern was then carefully transferred onto an absorbant surface such as paper or fabric. Used traditionally for book covers and end papers, part of the appeal of the technique is that each print was completely unique. We have used this imagery as inspiration for our marbled plate designs.
