Palm Skeleton
The Jit pook cooh collective has given the State of Campeche in Mexico a global reputation for its basketry. This small collective of Mayan women have grown the jipijapa plant in their yard for years. They cut the leaves finely before drying them in the sun. The dry strips are then softened in the underground cave beneath the yard where the natural humidity of the earth softens the fibres so that they can be intricately woven without breaking.
