Old Metal Corkscrews
Old Metal Corkscrews
Most of our old metal corkscrews are 'steel finger pulls' and come in a variety of traditional shapes; the '3 Finger Pull', the '4 Finger Pull' and the 'Oval Grip', the 'Hammer Head' and the 'Folding' - ideal for keeping in pockets! The corkscrew is thought to originate from the 17th century when bottle designs changed for horizontal storage and the corks had to be much tighter. The corkscrew 'worm' was adapted from early gun tools used to draw a bullet or assist in cleaning gun barrels. The early corkscrews were a simple 'T' design but demand soon increased and more interesting shapes evolved including some with mechanical devices, however the simple designs are practical and enduring.
